What is an llms.txt file?+
A markdown file at the root of your site (yoursite.com/llms.txt) that gives AI agents a short summary of your site and links to its most useful pages. The format was proposed at llmstxt.org.
Does llms.txt help me rank in ChatGPT?+
No major AI engine has confirmed using it as a ranking signal. It is a low-effort way to point agents to the right pages, not a substitute for being cited by the sources AI reads.
Where do I put the file?+
At the root of your domain, served as plain text: https://yoursite.com/llms.txt. On Shopify, WordPress or Webflow, upload it as a static file or use a redirect to a hosted file.
How many pages should it list?+
Your most useful pages: home, product or pricing pages, key guides and docs. This tool lists up to 15 pages per section from your sitemap.
