AI visibility API: your data, in your stack

Howseen tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers talk about your brand. The REST API and the MCP server put that data in your scripts, your client dashboards and your AI assistant.

What is an AI visibility API?

An AI visibility API returns, as data, how AI engines answer your buyers' questions: which brands they name, in which position, with which sources, engine by engine and over time.

Dashboards are fine to look at. Reports for clients, weekly alerts and internal BI need the numbers themselves. Howseen exposes them two ways: a read-only REST API that returns JSON, and a remote MCP server that lets an AI assistant read the same data and act on it.

Why it matters

Why export AI visibility data at all?

Because buyers now stop at the AI answer, the numbers that show whether AI names you belong in the same reports as traffic and revenue.

In a Pew Research Center analysis of Google searches, people clicked a traditional result in 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared, against 15% without one. Gartner predicted that search engine volume would drop 25% by 2026 because of AI chatbots and virtual agents. Google documents that AI Overviews and AI Mode build answers from many related searches (Google Search Central, AI features and your website).

“Under the hood, AI Mode uses our query fan-out technique, breaking down your question into subtopics and issuing a multitude of queries simultaneously on your behalf.”

An API turns that shift into a number your team already tracks: in a weekly report, a BI dashboard or an alert when a competitor overtakes you.

REST API

What the REST API returns

The REST API is read-only JSON, with date-range and engine filters and pagination, authenticated with a personal key.

curl -H "Authorization: Bearer hs_live_YOUR_KEY" \
  "https://app.howseen.ai/api/v1/brands/BRAND_ID/visibility?from=2026-09-01&engine=chatgpt"

MCP server

The MCP server: ask your AI assistant, then act

The MCP server at https://app.howseen.ai/api/mcp lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex read your AI visibility and, with a key that allows it, act on it.

Ask “on which questions does ChatGPT name a competitor and not us?”, “which sites should we get listed on first?” or “what changed since the last scan?” in plain words. Read tools work with any key. Action tools (add prompts, draft an article, publish it to your site, request indexing, create a shared report) need a key with actions enabled, and every action shows a preview before it applies.

Setup takes 2 minutes: create a key in Settings, API & AI assistants, then paste the ready-made command for your app. Commands and the full tool list: the MCP page and the public howseen-mcp repository on GitHub.

Questions, answered

Is there an API for AI visibility tracking?+

Yes. Howseen has a read-only JSON REST API (base URL https://app.howseen.ai/api/v1) for visibility, prompts, competitors, sources, responses, actions and articles, plus a remote MCP server for AI assistants.

How do I authenticate?+

With a personal key created in Settings, API & AI assistants, sent as Authorization: Bearer <key>. Apps that cannot send headers can pass it in the MCP URL as ?key=, which then must be kept private like a password.

Which AI assistants work with the MCP server?+

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP, including Claude Code, Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex.

Can the MCP server change things in my account?+

Only with a key that has actions enabled. Each action (add prompts, draft or publish an article, request indexing, create a report) previews first and applies only when confirmed.

Which plan do I need?+

Pro or Business. The 3-day free trial includes the API and the MCP server.
